After reviewing motors in preparation for an article geared for the HVAC industry, I decided that motors should have an entire page devoted to them to do the subject matter justice. Please look forward to the upcoming page which will detail the differences between AC motors and DC motors, general purpose motors vs. inverter duty motors, and different types of control such as variable speed drives, electronic commutation, and permanent split capacitor. I will also try to explain a few items including but not limited to:

(1) the need for limitations on wire lengths between variable speed drives and motors

(2) how a variable speed drive varies the speed to the motor

(3) how to determine the maximum output frequency of a variable speed drive to a motor when going beyond 60 Hz and the benefits/disadvantages
