Reading news like an engineer

If you are not reading the news using feed readers on your phone, then I will tell you how to save a lot of time. Feed readers grab news articles from many websites and put them into one platform.  Using an RSS feed, any one can receive updates from blogs and websites directly; this can be done primarily through web browsers, feed readers, and desktop applications.

Feed readers let you customize your subscriptions and are typically free. I personally use a feed reader application called Feedly on my phone which is free. According to wpbeginner.com, Feedly is also available as a browser add-on. Visitors may and are encouraged to subscribe to this website’s RSS feed. On Feedly, this can be be done simply by entering the URL of the website and clicking the add button.

Push notifications on the other hand can be a productivity killer and time waster. Push notifications are notifications from websites directly to your phone and/or web browser. Throughout a typical day, expect to receive numerous push notifications from any website that you have enabled push notifications for such as social media sites like Facebook, email accounts like Microsoft Outlook, and blogging websites such as cnet (which should be sent to the RSS feed reader instead).

The annoyance of push notifications is described well by Wired.com which writes,  “Allowing an app to send you push notifications is like allowing a store clerk to grab you by the ear and drag you into their store. You’re letting someone insert a commercial into your life anytime they want.”
